In the middle of the Rheinaue Urdenbacher Kämpe between Düsseldorf and Monheim am Rhein lies the historic manor Haus Bürgel. The former Roman fort is a building and ground monument with over 2,000 years of history.
In the courtyard today a Roman Museum, a biological station, and a cold-blooded horse breeding are located.

  • Nice house with extensive horse pastures, orchards and museum. We could even see two beekeepers working on the beehives set up there. However, the idea that the house was once on the other side of the Rhine is particularly spectacular. Not because the house had been demolished and rebuilt on the other side, but because the Rhine had sought a new bed and no longer flows where Garather Mühlenbach has now been redirected to.

  • Nice old structure. Thank goodness it stays with us through the museum and the stud. A stay is worth it.

  • The Bürgel House and especially the Roman Museum is a small museum with lots of information about the former fortress at this location. Interesting to know - the Bürgel house was once on the right bank of the Rhine.

  • The museum in the former Roman fort Haus Bürgel was opened in 2003 and has a permanent exhibition showing numerous archaeological finds from Roman times. They not only provide information about the history of this special place, but also bring the occupation policy, everyday life and the military system in the Roman province to life again.
