Herder was a geologist, mineralogist and Saxon chief mining officer who lived in Freiberg for a long time. "According to his last wish, the "friend of all miners" was buried in 1838 in the heap of the Holy Three Kings mine near Freiberg during a nightly mountain parade. The monument Herder's Rest was erected on the grave in his honor according to designs by Eduard Heuchler." (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_von_Herder)
