"The Alte Elisabeth pit is about 800 m as the crow flies from the Reiche Zeche pit and closer to the old town of Freiberg. Unlike the Reiche Zeche pit, on which numerous changes have been made over the years, the hat house and other buildings of the Alte Elisabeth pit are mostly external have been preserved in their 19th-century condition. Several rooms, such as a prayer room with an organ, have been preserved inside the Huthaus. The prayer room is regularly used for weddings and other events.Several rooms are used in the Huthaus and the Schachthaus Mining exhibits, including parts of the balancing steam engine from 1848 and a cutting bench, are on display. The current winding machine was installed in the 20th century. The hat house can be visited on request. However, the former mining forge, which is in another separate building, is no longer accessible. The hoisting cage of the Alte Elisabeth would be used to evacuate visitors in the event of a failure of the hoisting cages at the Reiche Zeche. As with the Reiche Zeche, the shaft can also be driven on next to the hoisting cage." [Source: Wikipedia]
