The Pfeiffer spring near Weimar was named after him in honor of the prehistoric historian Ludwig Pfeiffer on his 75th birthday.
As a prehistoric, he was a student of Friedrich Klopfleisch and was involved in the excavations for the Palaeolithic in Ehringsdorf (finds of the Ehringsdorfer primitive from 1908). He published a book on the tools of the Stone Age, also doing experimental archeology. Pfeiffer was a leader in the initiative to restore the nearby Saint Tower in 1909.
