At the Nibelungenheim (NO refreshment stops) there is a very interesting text board with the eventful history of this house. Definitely worth reading! Here is the text in full:
"The Nibelungenheim was built between 1927 and 1934 by a group of young people from Ludwigshafen. They called themselves the" Nibelung Society Palatinate Wandering Birds "and stood in their romantic pursuit of a simple life in a community based on friendship and the joy of hiking through nature in the tradition of the "Wandervogels", a group of the youth movement that originated around 1900. With the plan to have their own country home in the middle of the forest, they wanted a permanent home for their trips and a permanent center for their community fulfill.

Here at a historical location, on the foundations of the former Breitscheid hunting lodge of Count Palatine Johann Casimir von Pfalz-Lautern (1543 - 1592), better known as the "Hunters from Kurpfalz", they built it on their own in seven years of laborious work and with the smallest of resources House.

During the time of the Nazi regime, all non-party youth organizations were dissolved and the house was temporarily requisitioned by the Hitler Youth and the Labor Front. After the World War it was used, among other things, as a shelter for forest workers.

Since 1950 it has served the members of the "Nibelungenheim Waldhausgemeinschaft eV" newly founded group as a hiking base as well as a club and holiday home. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refreshment stop. We ask for your understanding and wish you a nice hike in our beautiful Palatinate Forest. "

The beautifully maintained little house of the Nibelungen Waldhausgemeinschaft e.V. stands in a clearing. 3 benches invite you to rest. During the Advent season, the club members provide schnapps for Wanderer women and men. 😊

The Nibelungenheim today belongs to the Waldhausgemeinschaft Ludwigshafen e. V. In former times a hunting lodge was built here, which was built for the better hunting of the hunters.
