The City Museum of Oriental Art is located in the heart of Trieste, a few steps from Piazza dell'Unità d Italia. It is the first museum dedicated to oriental art and was born in the High Adriatic city and in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

The museum is located in Cavana, on the edge of the oldest part (old town), close to the coast, a few steps from the Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia, in a historic 18th century building, the Palazzetto Leo, formerly owned by the family was triestina dei Leo, donated in 1954 by Countess Margherita Nugent together with the two adjacent buildings (the former church of Saint Sebastiano and Rocco and the rectory) of the municipality of Trieste.

The museum houses the collections of oriental art, but also memories and travel memories, weapons, musical instruments, various kinds of testimonies and ethno-anthropological finds from all over Asia, especially from China and Japan, and from Trieste's city museums of history and art acquired in the second half of the nineteenth century. The way of the museum runs in the four floors of the building.
