The beautiful Trieste - here a little history: The city was namely from the end of the 13th century until 1919 almost exclusively under Habsburg-Austrian rule. You can see that when you stroll through the city. You could almost forget that you are in Italy. But the typical flair of the Italians (the friendly little chaos) reminds you quite quickly where you are right now. Architecturally, however, the city center is totally reminiscent of Vienna, Prague and Budapest, not Venice, Rome or Florence, the other "big" Italian cities.
