It commemorates the siege of the Swedish troops in the Thirty Years' War. Inaugurated in 1844 as a "monument of citizen loyalty". Not far from the monument, a reminder of the city wall with a golden plaque commemorates this event.

Hiking

During the siege of the city in the 30 Years' War by Swedish troops under their commander-in-chief Torstensson, the enemy's main attacks were directed against St. Peter's Gate. It was destroyed and partially occupied by the enemy.

The Sweden Monument, a design by Professor Eduard Heuchler, commemorates these tribulations of the 30 Years' War. The monument, erected in 1843/44, illustrates the most important phases of the siege on its six sides.
