The 'Royal Tombs' in ancient Petra were carved from sandstone by the Nabataeans more than 2,300 years ago. The graves are carved at the foot of the rock massif 'Jabal al-Khubtha'. The monumental size and decorated facades suggest that they were built for rich people or important people, possibly kings or queens of Petra.
