You cannot ignore the mining past in Limburg. The mining industry has brought much prosperity and also much misery and although the last mine closed in 1992, it continues to move many souls. We walk to the two slag heaps of Beringen, followed by a climb of 100 altimeters with, of course, beautiful views.
For lunch we head to the multicultural miners' quarter, located at the beautiful Fatih mosque that we also visit. In the afternoon a guide leads us along and through the historic buildings and we imagine ourselves as a miner in the headframe and lamp room. An underground simulation completes the picture. Then we head to the multicultural miners' quarter, located at the beautiful Fatih mosque that we also visit. Then we walk back to the B&B.

After a delicious breakfast we go into nature. We visit the Blueberry Fields and have a blueberry juice or tea. Then we follow the Zwarte Beek, which is indeed rusty brown in color because of the high iron content, and the nature reserve with the same name with peat pits, vibrating peat, sunken roads and vast plains, over normal and decking paths. We have a picnic at the 30 m high lookout tower of Koersel Kapelleke, a locally very famous pilgrimage site since 1826. Via the military domain with beautiful views, we walk back to our farm where a nice dinner awaits. After a delicious breakfast we go into nature.
