The Château du PETIT ARNSBOURG was first mentioned in 1335 when the von Wasigenstein brothers received the castle from the Weißenburg Abbey as a fief. At that time it served as a pure mansion with a few changes of ownership. Around the year 1485 the Counts of Zweibrücken-Bitsch received the castle. Under their rule, the Kleine Arnsburg was rebuilt and expanded. During the Thirty Years War the castle was then destroyed and never rebuilt. From the ruins we enjoy a wonderful view of Obersteinbach.

A fascinating rock castle, in which the rock was artfully integrated into the castle structures. If you look around carefully, you will always discover stairs that must have made sense at some point. It's fun to let your imagination run wild as to which room may have served which purpose.

Wild-romantic ruins of the Petit Arnsbourg. Unfortunately at the time of our visit (mid-April 2017) in Restoration and therefore actually locked.

Nevertheless, because we came from the hiking trail and there was no barrier there, we went to the lower castle. We did not want to go further. The cracks in the masonry looked a little confidence-inspiring.
