I tried to recreate the course of the Karlsruher Lokalbahn (KLB, "Lobberle") as it was in 1917.The entire route of the meter-gauge local railway ran from Spöck to Durmersheim. In 1917 the electrification between Hagsfeld and Daxlanden took place with a voltage of 600 volts - this is the section that I walked. The local railway no longer exists today; Over the decades, it was replaced by new lines of the standard-gauge light rail system or old routes for the light rail system were reactivated. Evidence from that time can still be found ...------------------------------------A few explanations about the photos:Turning loop Hirtenweg: here the "Depot II" was built in 1921/22Catenary masts on Haid-und-Neu-Straße: these three masts are believed to date from the early days when the line was electrified (not proven)Information center of the cemetery: this building was the waiting hall of the KLBTechnology factory: former sewing machine company Haid & Neu; here there was a rail connection with loading track; the remains of the three-rail track (normal gauge and meter gauge) are still presentKapellenstrasse: here was the local train station (operating center)Badisches Staatstheater: the main station was located here; The KLB had no connection to the tracks of the Rheinbahn and Maxaubahn, but crossed the lines of the Hauptbahn several timesMathystrasse: just one example in which the old route is still used by the Stadtbahn todayHirschbrücke: the bridge is older than the KLB and was built in connection with the Rheinbahn and the Maxaubahn from 1888 to 1891; the local railway later used the former route of the MaxaubahnWeinbrennerplatz: here the local train led into Weinbrennerstraße, then Yorkstraße to today's stop "Kühler Krug"Westbahnhof: in this area the former route is no longer traceable; in Kesslerstraße there is the last overhead line rosette before the Westbahnhof, the next one is only in Durmersheimer Straße"Braustübel" restaurant: until the 00s the restaurant was called "Zur Lokalbahn"; the brewery right next to it had a sidingCatenary rosettes and hooks: some of them are still used today for the Stadtbahn if the route is identical to that of the former local railway (Haid-und-Neu-Straße, Mathystraße, Gartenstraße)More information about the former local railway:

The railway line continued to Wintersdorf via the Rhine to France via the beautiful Wintersdorfer bridge. But you didn't get that far.The last passenger train ran here in the 1960s. Until the 1990s, the route was more or less well preserved for military strategic reasons. One is currently thinking about a restart.

Since the distant view was not so "distant" today, I changed my plan and remembered a "water hike" by Klaus. A little bit longer, the opposite direction and off we went.
And sometimes only a small moat separates the access to the right path ... 😅

About Tom

- Weihnachtsmarktbesuchen,
- kurzen Hunderunden,
- Touren per Schiff (Kreuzfahrten),
- Konzertbesuchen oder andere 1,2 km-Events und
- Gängen in den Supermarkt
... die als "Wanderungen" benannt sind. Ich staune immer wieder.
