There are only a few traces left that suggest a castle complex. The gypsy rock could have been an outpost of Wasigenstein Castle. In the 18th century, the rock probably served as a shelter for a band of gypsies. Climbing is a bit tricky over a steep ladder and a "slip through" - sure-footedness is essential in any case!
