Born as Ludwig Karl August (born August 25, 1786 in Strasbourg; † February 29, 1868 in Nice), he was King of the Kingdom of Bavaria from the Wittelsbach family.
He succeeded his father Maximilian I on the Bavarian throne after his death in 1825 and abdicated in the revolutionary year of 1848 in favor of his son Maximilian II.
Right at the back of the square is the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Home.
