The Angel of Peace is a striking monument in the Bogenhausen district and was erected in 1899 to commemorate 25 years of peace following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. It consists of a 38-meter-high column topped by a golden angel statue, modeled after the Greek goddesses of victory. The monument stands in the middle of a park-like setting with a fountain and a viewing terrace offering a beautiful view of the city. The Angel of Peace is a popular vantage point and a symbolic monument to peace and historical remembrance in Munich.
