The Venus Fountain is the symbol of love, fertility and birth. Venus is the Roman goddess of love and beauty. She was born from the foam of the sea. The Venus Fountain fits well in the palace garden, because the goddess Venus is the protector of gardens and vineyards. But in the 17th century everyone understood that it was also a reference to Princess Mary, who travelled from England across the sea to the Netherlands to marry stadtholder William III.
