Appointment at Brillant, the Brabant draft horse, in Vollezele.
With 'full meaning' we set out in search of panoramic viewpoints in the Patjottenland.
Veldwegels and field crosses lead us through a quiet area where Brabant draft horses feel at home. The legendary Congo Mountain, a witness hill, with its 105 meters height is a highlight in the region. From the flanks of the Congoberg you can enjoy spectacular views of the valley of the Waarbeek. Tired but satisfied we return along an open rolling landscape.Old pollard willows, marked by the past, are a natural landmark for us in the wide empty environment of the Pajottenland. On the horizon, the spire of Saint Paul betrays our end point. We muse on the mining past in the shadow of the pillory near the miner's bust.

Discover rolling Brabant fields in our Sunday suit.
Appointment after high mass with local proud Herenboeren and Hofdames.
Sprinkled with holy water from Saint Stephanus, we quickly bridge a few meters of altitude to eventually end up on the historic Roman highway.
The road of the past takes us into the present. Veldwegels introduces us to panoramic views of Brussels. High-rise buildings stand out on the horizon. The spheres of the Atomium reflect in the sunlight. Fortunately, we have our sunglasses on and continue farming over the ancient fields.Arriving at the Groot – Amelgemhoeve we muse for a moment about the Devil's Barn.
A place with a story about a pact between the farmer and the devil (??? ... read highlight).
Continue along the Kleine – Amelgemhoeve where
vegetables bring variety to the open fields.
Our favorite vegetable 'Brussels Brussels sprouts…'
The tiny flowers are bursting with vitamins and are ready to be harvested.
Firmly rooted tendons are ready to be pulled. Unfortunately on Sundays there are no karot pullers in the fields…
Picturesque Ossel with its village church, stately mansions, castles (Hagenkasteel - Wolvendaal) and historic Vierkantshoeven, located along old country roads, take us further into the landscape and tell their own story.Definitely worth the effort to traverse the vegetable garden of Brussels in the footsteps of smallholder farmers…”
Anyway, it was nice to end up in the open fields on the outskirts of Brussels.

Rupeling through RivierenlandLovely awakening, the fallen dew begins to evaporate on the patio table and garden furniture.
      The autumn sun spoils Rivierenland.
If it itches you have to pedal…
      Time to check tire pressure.
On this bike tour we want to rediscover, experience and share some gems on the Rupel…
With hope of blessing and with the blessing of tall slender Franciscus (tower – Rupelkerk) we start our cycling tour. At the place of knowledge & wisdom (Provincial Technical School) we stop for a while. Unfortunately, it is not possible to fill our drinking bottles here, because the old protected water tower from the interwar period – 1927 has been dry for half a century. This is now filled with high voltage.Full of excitement, continue along the garden district and the old Capuchin monastery 'De Klinkaard'.
Unfortunately, we cannot 'Sound' here either, because there is no longer any holy water or water of that 'nature' available. The 'Klinkaard Church' is now a private residential area.
Via 'Bos N', the old filled-in clay pit 'N', we pedal along the Schorre and at a corner we take the 'Wijk Hoek'.
We greet Loes Van den Heuvel (Carmen from F.C. De Kampioenen), a successful Street Art, at the special 'Eclectic Burgerhuis' and finally find the Rupel.
Slowly along the Boom Skyline and then dive into the clay past at Noeveren.
Stately chimneys and kilns tell their past…
We leave the Gloriëtte of the Court of Moriau to our right this time. We are still a little early for tea. The altimeters at the 'Mountain of Trèskes' in Niel are easily overcome.
The Miraggio of Maria's chapel continues to feed our spirits.
Somewhat blinded by the candlelight, we can find the Rupeldijk through the black spots on our retina. Screaming buzzards attract our attention, they pray above the Nielsbroek nature reserve in search of a mouse or rabbit. At the bottom of the dike, deep in the undergrowth, skittish deer give us a glance for two seconds.
Let's leave the Tolhuis for what it is… We won't take the ferry today. Our trip continues under high voltage along the mouth of the Rupel.
The Interescaut or popularly called 'den Escaut' has dominated the skyline of the confluence of Rupel and Scheldt for decades. Time to say goodbye and we dive back into the interior of Rivierenland via the Vliet.
Our condition is good and we like to climb the local calf biter, 'De Bult van Schel', twice.
Not bothered by lactic acid or a sore poo, we go through the anal triangle Aartselaar – Kontich & Reet. We round off our bike ride over the Rupeldijk and along the Schorre back to…

Discovering the transition area between the Northern and Southern Kempen. From Mol – Achterbos full of energy through the core of the Atoomwijk. Alert and slightly bent over our handlebars along the Nuclea Golf Course. Not out of respect for the well-educated and trained practitioners, but simply out of safety for ourselves, we avoid the uncontrolled flying golf balls. Continue along Sas 6 and chased along the Bochelt – Herentals Canal.
The Boeretang (old 17th century farm) cannot keep us in its grip for long and continues to the Watermill of Retie.
On Sundays, the pressure barometer turns dark red there. Still, catch a glimpse of the mill wheel and then cool down with a 'Battle of the mill' at Onze Lieve Vrouw ter Snow in Dessel.Arriving at the Zwaaikom of the Canal Dessel – Schoten at Postel Ter Heyde, we 'wave' to the passing pleasure yachts. Our vestibular system is tested on the borderland of the Seven Glories. Balancing, passed the balancing act well and still straight on the track back along the banks of the Bochelt – Herentals canal.
To then return in the right cadence (measure) along 'Nature Reserve De Maat' along the shiny Zilveren like Canal Lake.
It is a pity, today no medals were awarded at the finish at the Zilvermeer.
Unfortunately no gold, silver or bronze for us.
We hadn't dabbled in Lommel though…

However, the sky is gray and gray.
The sun is the great absentee on this Sunday.
Just stroll through Old Antwerp and look for colors yourself...

Getting to know the Kempische Landscape and the Kempische Heuvelrug with the four grandchildren.
The most ideal location to discover this is the Tourist Tower - Herentals, which is located in the Bosbergen.
The Bosbergen, with its 40 meters height, had to be climbed along 'De Viertien Kapellekensberg' - Calvary.
The young violence had overcome the 14 stations in no time without stumbling or falling.
The 24 meter high Tourist Tower - Watchtower was built in 1958, on the occasion of the World Exhibition, to put the city of Herentals in the spotlight.
Today it was an experience for our grandchildren to climb the 112 steps and gaze out at the horizon.
Bobbejaanland, Antwerp with its slender slender towers, Cooling towers of the nuclear power station of Doel that belches white clouds.
It was a short walk but with lots of imagination and entertainment…

Looking forward to it every year and on this sun-drenched Saturday the time has come, a 'Meeting with Erica'.
Zonhoven benefits from the sunlight, the sky turns blue at times…
      Erica's hills turn purple.
It is a feast for the eyes.
Just relax and enjoy all this beauty.

      Sunny Saturday in Zonhoven.
Discover De Wijers and Wijvenheide in good company.
      But our adventure was short-lived.
Swarms of mosquitoes and other stinging insects targeted the many visitors.
The ruminating Great grazers and Maria van Bijstand have firmly abandoned us.
Forced and seriously stimulated, we stopped our discovery early.
The further discovery of the 'The land of 1001 ponds' will be for another time.

      Last day “Dessert walk”
      Admire a tour of 'Vakmanshuizen'…
During our last supper, we muse about our successful holiday week.
To conclude that we have not yet visited the idyllic villages where we often drove last week.
After a stormy, chilly day of walking we did a short dessert walk.
Oberkirchen charmed us and also received the necessary attention from us.
A short visit is fascinating. A long tiring and by the way we already had enough kilometers on our counter today.
You can't start more centrally than at the village church, God's ways may be inscrutable, but our trust is placed on the Komoot App. The Komoot Community takes us along several highlights. (For what then to the makers of these special locations). On our short walk we were able to enjoy gems of old 'Vakmanshuizen'.
'Craftsmanship is mastery' is appropriate here.
      We enjoyed our dessert walk.
Hoch Sauerland 😊 I would definitely go back there. Of course with my adventurous wife. It's been worth it. We really enjoyed it.
Hereby, to my followers, many thanks for your nice and playful reactions during our holiday week. 👊
