We set off for the Testerbergen. After we had conquered them, we walked around the Tenderingssee. We would have liked to take a lunch break, but there wasn't a bench in sight anywhere. Not even a tree stump that offered us a place to sit. Finally, we ended up on the golf course in Brockhausen, where

🥾😊 the Venloop in Venlo..... and we were among the approximately 30,000 participants.



🥾 The Venloop is one of the largest mass sports events in our neighboring country.



🥾 The hikers set off today, Saturday, the runners will start tomorrow.



🥾 We were cheered on by spectators along the way and partly

🥾😊 Media reported, interest was piqued, so off to the whale 🐳 in Xanten Cathedral.

🥾 parked at the restaurant Zur Rheinfähre 😉 to have a well-deserved coffee after the hike, with a sweet treat.

🥾 past the Hotel Fürstenberg to Haus Fürstenberg and the chapel (monastery), a very quiet place to pause

🥾 Our hike started at the Klausenhof in Dingden. We walked past the fish ponds to the wetlands of the Dingden Heath. Before that, we went up the observation tower and enjoyed the view, being very quiet so as not to disturb any birds.



After the Büngersche and Dingden Heath, we wanted to cross the water

🥾😊 Like so many others, I took advantage of the wonderful weather to get out into nature. I hiked past lots of water, including the Rhine, Rosenhofsee, Grindsee, and flooded meadows.

🥾😊 We found ourselves in the Diersfordt Forest today, where the cold wind doesn't bother you as much. Karin did a good dance to chase away the rain, but the warm temperatures haven't quite worked out yet 😉 but she'll get there.



The first part of the hike is relatively quiet, but that quickly changes

🥾😊 The park lights in Grugapark Essen are well worth seeing, and with warm clothing you can enjoy the light installations. The event runs until March 1, 2026. 🥾🤗

🥾😊 Unfortunately, the Fährhaus restaurant is closing in the middle of this month. No one knows what will happen next. But this restaurant will be missed.



So I stopped by the Fährhaus for one last latte macchiato and thoroughly enjoyed the view of the Rhine in the sunshine.

🥾😊 Karin often has the task of performing the "sun dance" the day before a hike so we don't have to walk through the rain. And as so often happens, it worked this time too 😉.



We hiked through Wesel's city center to the Rhine and Auesee lake, enjoying some sunshine 🌞

🥾😊 Today we didn't choose a particularly scenic route or area for our hike. We started from home, which is also lovely. After all, we live in a nature reserve where others go on vacation 😊.
