The ruins of the Guben town and main church are one of the most remarkable buildings in Gubin. It was first mentioned in a document in 1324 as a late Gothic town church. In 1945 it was destroyed by fighting and burned down. Since then the ruin has stood and as a memorial against war. A Gubener Foundation and the Gubener Förderverein, headed by Günter Quiel, are committed to rebuilding the church as a German-Polish meeting center. Security measures and the clearing of the interior have taken place. Reconstruction is making slow progress, presumably due to a lack of money and a lack of political support.
