    Protected as a monument by MB of 07.12.1983. Neo-Gothic church on the site of the former, much smaller parish church, which was demolished in 1878, and built according to the plans of the Ghent architect Modeste De Noyette, executed between 1878 and 1883. The rubble of the old church was used in the foundations of the new church. The first plans date from 1865. Karel Stroo (first mayor of Eeklo) provided financial support for the first designs. The voluminous tower has a height of almost 100 meters. The interior is a treasure trove of neo-Gothic and executed by various renowned neo-Gothic artists: including woodcarvings by the Eeklo sculptor Karel Smitz, sculptures by Mathias Zens, stained glass windows by Gust Ladon and wall paintings by Leon Bressers. The beautifully romantic Hooghuys organ dates from 1866. The complete interior finishing took another fifty years.
