In 1990, a Sherman tank was placed on the grounds of Eeklo, at the Balgerhoeke lock, in honour of our Canadian liberators. During their Battlefield Tour that year, the South Alberta Regiment was honourably and symbolically presented with this Sherman tank, which was dedicated to all the Canadian units involved and to the 4th Canadian Armoured Division, of which the South Alberta Regiment was a key combat unit. This RECCE regiment was commanded at the time by Colonel Gordon D. de S. "Swatty" Wotherspoon and was known within the brigade as "the eyes, ears, and nose for the 4th Armoured Division."Read the full story at tracesofwar.nl/sights/5457/M4A4-Sherman-Tank-Clanky.htm
