    Forest theater

After the First World War, a group of forest theater enthusiasts was founded under the leadership of Professor Rudolf Ringel. In 1920, the "Divadelní spolek Sloup" was founded. They originally started playing in the hall of a local hotel. In the same year, the idea of own theater stage was born. A forest area with romantic rocks on the land of Count Augustian Kisnký by the road leading to Svojkov came into consideration. With the support of Count Kinski, local businessmen and Novy Bor manufacturers, they managed to collect 50,000 Czech crowns and during 1921 build a forest scene that was unmatched by any other in Bohemia. Corridors were excavated in the sandstone rock, a podium, a sandstone tower and a wall with a Gothic gate and seats for 2,000 visitors were built. On Whit Sunday 1921, Professor Ringel inaugurated the new forest theater. The first theatrical performance was the drama "The Sunken Bell". Thanks to the excellent acoustics, operas and operettas were also performed here (eg The Magician or The Gypsy Baron).

The construction of the forest theater based on a design by the painter Ringel began in 1920 and in the summer of the following year it was ceremoniously opened with Hauptmann's play Sunken Bell. The theater used the structured sandstone massif behind which the backstage was hidden. The stage was closed on the north side with a cylindrical tower about 3.5 high, which was connected to the rock massif with a stone wall with a Gothic gate. The theater also included other wooden buildings that were connected to each other in the rock through carved passages and tunnels. Below the stage was the orchestra pit and on the opposite slope was the auditorium with wooden benches for around 1,600 spectators.

Since the 60s of the 20th century, the theater fell into disrepair and was almost forgotten. However, in 2004 it was reconstructed and benches for 250 spectators were installed on the opposite slope. In the summer months, theater performances with an incomparable atmosphere are held here.
