Every "Calvary", like here in Zwickau in Bohemia, is reminiscent of "Golgotha" ("Height of the Skull") near Jerusalem, the place of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. A Way of the Cross with the stations - nowadays usually 14 - often leads up the mountain or hill. Early medieval predecessors had only 7 stations and were sometimes also called the "Walk to the Seven Falls". In some areas, more recent Ways of the Cross have another station after the XIVth station, the burial of Jesus: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This type of Way of the Cross broadens the view of the Easter perspective of hope: the overcoming of death and suffering.
