In 1805 the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. and Queen Luise to Bad Alexandersbad to spend three weeks in the local bath castle. A heyday for the spa, which this obelisk is supposed to commemorate.

When the Prussian rulers Friedrich Wilhelm III and Queen Luise stayed in Alexandersbad from June 13th to July 5th, 1805, they visited the Luisenburg eight times. To make it easier for the guests to find their way, an avenue was carved out that began in front of the Alexandersbad Palace and went straight up to the heights of the Luxburg. Today, only the lower part of this wide path remains.
About halfway up the path, on a rock that is popularly known as the "whale", there is a stone pyramid over four meters high, to which a tablet made of Wunsiedler marble with an inscription is attached. This obelisk was only erected after the royal couple's visit.
