Frontzate is a walking and cycling path of almost 15 km long between Nieuwpoort and Diksmuide.
During the Great War, this old railway line 74 between Diksmuide and Nieuwpoort was a strategically important front line. Because the bed is on average more than one meter higher than the surrounding polder land, the berm serves as a defense line and also as a flood barrier. Both left and right of the old railway bed are brick or concrete constructions. Along the Frontzate there are approximately 163 different building structures that are linked to the period 1914 - 1918.
Keep your eyes open and follow the war past.
On this route you will also come across several well-preserved bunker complexes.
