Frontzate is a walking and cycling path of almost 15 km long between Nieuwpoort and Diksmuide.
During the Great War, this old railway line 74 between Diksmuide and Nieuwpoort was a strategically important front line. Because the bed is on average more than one meter higher than the surrounding polder land, the verge serves as a defense line and also as a water barrier. Both to the left and right of the old railway bed there are constructions in brick or concrete. Along the Frontzate there are approximately 163 different building structures that are linked to the period 1914 - 1918.
Keep your eyes open and follow the trail into the war past.
On this route you will also come across several well-preserved bunker complexes.
