Jean Bilquin's artwork is part of the Beaufort Sculpture Park along the Belgian coast. The striking sculpture depicts a man on the lookout of a boat—a symbol of vision, a spirit of adventure, and a close connection to the sea.

"The Man Who Saw the Boat in the Sky", artwork by Jean Bilquin
On the beach of Zeebrugge you see a boat in the air. The three thousand kilo boat rests on 10 meter high trestles, a construction that weighs at least as much as the boat itself. The work seems to float above the surf. To prevent the colossus from sinking, it was necessary to suck the water out of the subsoil. The 13 meter long canoe contains unrecognizable and fragile human figures. They are, as it were, at the mercy of the waves. The whole symbolizes the journey of life with highs and lows, as everyone knows. There is also a figure mysteriously watching in the direction of the boat. Literally a split concrete figure with a white polished head.
