The papyrus fountain was created by the sculptor and medalist Gernot Rumpf (born in Kaiserslautern in 1941) and donated by Papierwerke Waldhof-Aschaffenburg (PWA) for their 100th company anniversary on June 26, 1984. A number of motifs are borrowed from the art of paper folding. The best-known product of the PWA at that time was Zewa wipe-and-way.

The papyrus fountain was donated by the Waldhof pulp mill in 1984 to mark its 100th anniversary. The sculptor and medalist Gernot Rumpf made motifs from the paper folding technique in metal and arranged them for this fountain.
The fountain is located in Mannheim city center in P7.
