In the immediate vicinity of the Royal Castle lies the Storkyrkan. Literally translated, her name means "the great church". Storkyrkan has been Stockholm Cathedral since 1942.

Stockholm Cathedral is the oldest church in Stockholm (13th century) dedicated to St. Nicolaus. The church has a Baroque brick character from the outside and a primarily Gothic interior. The church is closely connected to the Royal Family so that many Royal Weddings and Funerals took place there (e.g. the wedding between Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling in 2010). The wooden sculpture Saint George and the Dragon and the oil-on-panel painting Vädersolstavlan are worth visiting.

Storkyrkan is the cathedral of Stockholm. The oldest evidence of the existence of this church dates from 1279.
The facades and tower were converted into Baroque style in the 18th century because the medieval appearance was disturbing, next to the Baroque royal castle.
Marriages of members of the Royal House are blessed here.

Storkyrkan, also known as the Stockholm Cathedral or St. Nicholas Church, is one of the oldest and most impressive churches in Stockholm, known for its Baroque architecture, royal connections and historical works of art such as the world-famous painting "St. George and the Dragon" by Bernt Notke.

The cathedral in Stockholm (St. Nicholas Church) houses its sights inside. A huge bronze candelabra, several impressive paintings and a globe of lights made of lit candles decorate the cathedral from the inside. I am particularly impressed by the royal chairs, the pulpit, the organ and the silver altar, made of ebony and silver. The absolute highlight of the attractions in the cathedral is the sculpture group "St. George and the Dragon". Not only is there an impressive legend surrounding this sculpture, no, for me the craftsmanship is very impressive. This showpiece was donated to the church in 1498. Back then they didn't have any computer-controlled machines or 3D printers.
