Anyone who comes to Stockholm for the first time should definitely visit Gamla Stan. In a way, Gamla Stan is the original cell of Stockholm. From here the city spread out. Today Gamla Stan connects the northern district of Norrmalm with the southern district of Södermalm (to which Gamla Stan belongs administratively). The island on which Gamla Stan is located is called “Stadsholmen”, although the name is rarely found on street maps.Significant buildingsIn Gamla Stan there are important buildings such as the Royal Castle, the German Church and the Storkyrkan, where Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling married on June 19, 2010.However, many tourists associate the old town in Stockholm with the narrow streets, the many old gabled houses painted in earth tones and the small squares with their cafes, restaurants, galleries and handicraft shops.
