At the upper end of the New Town stands the Swan Fountain, built in 1710. A richly decorated shell mountain, approximately 2.50 meters high, "grows" from the sandstone fountain bowl. A swan sits on top, from whose beak the water pours into the fountain. The fountain was built to glorify the swans, the kings of waterfowl.
