When I realized that the Zittauer Gebirgslauf und Wandertreff (ZGLW) would be postponed to September and I couldn't take part, I thought that I would do my lap today. However, I didn't start from the Olbersdorf sports field but, as always, from Pethauer pond. Still, I was able to follow the tour for about 93 percent. In principle, it is a very nice lap that can be run relatively well. I have discovered many places where I have not been in my whole life. The ascents and descents are completely ok. But, should it rain a lot the days before the ZGLW, it will be a single mud fight for the hiker. If it has not rained for weeks, then you will have to deal with a lot of dust. And if the sun is extremely shining on this day, you need really good sun protection. The tour runs mostly on dirt roads and meadows. There is very little shade. Good footwear is an absolute must here.

Today in bad hiking weather a nice round through the open pit landscape of the former lignite opencast mine Olbersdorf. The paths were pretty muddy but relatively easy to walk along the edges. On the entire tour, I only met 4 people. That's why you could enjoy the rest to the fullest.

Easy but beautiful tour without many meters in altitude. Very suitable for lots of sunshine as approx. 85% of the tour runs over fields.

Nice round for the morning. It's a shame that it was sometimes very foggy in Oybin. The Wiesenweg, above the Brandsteinweg and below the Felsengasse is highly recommended. There you can see the Große Felsengasse from a completely different perspective, which is very impressive.

Today the focus was not on hiking but on the ingenious train journey. First we went from Fiesch to Zermatt with the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway and then with the Gornergrat Railway to the Gornergrat Glacier. On the Gornergrat the train runs at 3,080 m above sea level. The second highest train in Europe. A very good example of Swiss railway technology.

For me the best tour today. From Bettmerhorn to Riederfurka via the Grat mountain hiking trail. A great way to run very well and always have a 360 degree view. You can take great panoramic photos of the Hohfluh. You need about 2.5 hours for the way including small breaks and photo stops.

Nice hike through the Aletsch Forest to the suspension bridge. The Aletsch Forest is a nature reserve. There you can see many Swiss stone pines, larches and spruces. It has not been cultivated since the 1980s and is left as it is. This allows you to see beautiful old trees and it donates a lot of shade on the hike to the suspension bridge, which was very pleasant at today's temperatures of around 25 degrees Celsius. The descent to the suspension bridge is very rocky and sometimes very steep. Surefootedness and proper footwear are an absolute must!

Only 6 km. They were tough. But it was really worth it to walk to the edge of the glacier. First you see how powerful the largest glacier in Europe is. Partly still 900 m thick ice although it has become more than 4 km shorter since 1860.
