The rectangular sandstone tower between nave and choir has a Romanesque core (12th century), but is enclosed by outbuildings, so that only a minimal part is visible: a wall building in a small, irregular pattern with a round-arched window with arched stones, above the roof of the south outbuilding; the projecting sandstone part in regular pattern, is a later elevation with pointed arch-shaped chimneys connected by a cordon (15th century).

The church was first mentioned in 1235. Its patron saints are Genoveva of Paris and Nicholas. Three architectural styles can be distinguished in the exterior architecture of this church. The lower part of the crossing tower is Romanesque, the superstructure of the crossing tower is Gothic and the nave is Neo-Baroque. For stability reasons, the church was shortened in 1994 and the monumental facade was replaced by a modern design. The church tower is 37.55 m high.
