The Leer interchange station has a reception building and three tracks used by passenger trains (a central platform and a main platform). A bus station, bicycle parking spaces, a taxi stand, parking spaces, and a parking garage for cars connect it to other means of transport. In addition to the passenger tracks, there are also several shunting tracks on the station grounds.

The current, broad, symmetrical main building, dating from 1855, consists of five sections. It was constructed in the round-arched style of Historicism.

The two-story, cube-shaped structures on the outside and in the center are characterized by protruding sandstone corner pilasters and wide sandstone bands, and are topped by flat hipped roofs. Three round-arched windows on each floor at the front and rear provide light. The lower intermediate buildings are single-story on the street side, but have a second row of windows on the track side. Pilasters divide the bays, each containing two round-arched windows.

The main entrance is located in a flat porch in front of the center of the building.

In February 2014, Deutsche Bahn announced that it would modernize the station as part of the "Niedersachsen ist am Zug! II" (Lower Saxony is on the move! II) program.

The modernization was completed in spring 2017.

This station is the gateway to East Frisia. Whether you are coming from the south or the east, there is no getting around this station.

Otherwise, this is a classic small town station. A library/newspaper shop and a bakery with an attached cafe. A bit dingy and, as befits a station, you will always find the downfalls of society here.

The current, broad, symmetrical main building from 1855 consists of five parts. It was built in the round-arch style of historicism. The station was modernized in spring 2017 and expanded to include another underpass with elevators.
