In 2003, the dilapidated ship was threatened with scrapping. That called a few people from Leer on the scene: They had the wreck towed to Leer, founded an association for the restoration of the steamer and got to work. They found a lot of support, but it still took 13 years and over 60,000 working hours to resurrect the old steamer in new beauty.
