The Old Weigh House at Leer's commercial port was built in 1714 as the last building in the Dutch Neoclassical Baroque style in East Frisia.

With the granting of market rights in 1508, Leer also received the right to weigh.

The Reformed congregation secured this right, as the first Leer weigh house was housed in the bell tower of the now-demolished St. Liudger Church until 1570.

In 1570, the weigh house was relocated to the Leda River, thus becoming the nucleus of the later port economy. Initially, the weigh house was housed in a simple wooden building.

This became dilapidated over time and was replaced by the spacious new weigh house in 1714.

In 1865, under pressure from merchants, the Kingdom of Hanover abolished the Reformed Church's weighing monopoly associated with the weigh house and transferred it to the city.

In 1921, the Association for the Protection of Local History acquired the weigh house, which it still owns today. Today, the building houses a restaurant.

The Old Weigh House is a two-story brick building with a double-hipped roof in the Dutch High Baroque style, with neoclassical features. The façade is strictly structured by colossal pilasters and simple, large windows.

The double-hipped roof, the ridge turret with a clock and open lantern, the dedication stone, and the sundial are based on Dutch Baroque models.

Nice building in the middle of the city center and close to the water.

The Old Libra at the trading port of Leer was built in 1714. It is a two-storey brick building with a double-hipped roof in the style of the Dutch High Baroque, which carries classical features. The facade is strictly structured by colossal pilasters and the simple, large windows. The double-hipped roof, the razor with clock and open lantern, dedication stone and sundial go back to models of the Dutch Baroque.
