The listed church was built in 1955 as a quasi-parish of St. Michael in Leer. Since 2018, both parishes have merged to form the parish of Blessed Hermann Lange.

St. Mary's is a hall church made of red bricks on a rectangular floor plan with a semicircular apse. The church building is not oriented east, but south-southeast. A gable roof covers the church, on the northwest side of which a slender church tower is built. Three narrow, tall, rectangular sound holes are set into the bell floor. The flat tent roof is crowned by a tower knob with a simple cross

and a weather vane. The church tower serves as the west entrance and as a staircase to the organ and the bell chamber. It houses a four-bell set from the Monasterium Eijsbouts bell foundry from 1963.

Seven tall, narrow windows on the eastern long side and five on the western side light up the interior of the church. The apse is closed on the south side, but has a tall triple window on each side. The church is accessed through a rectangular portal in the north under a tall triple window. Narrow pent roofs on the long sides below the windows indicate side aisles. The interior is simply furnished.

The flat-roofed interior is closed off by a coffered ceiling.

In the north, the gallery serves as the location for the organ.

You can almost feel how the city has come closer and closer to the church, which nevertheless stands out impressively above everything else.

On January 1, 2018, there will be a new parish here in Leer.

It will be called: “Blessed Hermann Lange”.

There will be two churches within the parish, the Church of St. Michael in the old town and the Church of St. Mary in Leer-Loga.
