This Highlight goes through a protected area
Please check local regulations for: Urdenbacher Kämpe
Along the Urdenbacher Rheinauen the Rhine is particularly undisturbed, no city, no factory or highway nearby. You can rarely experience electricity in the Rhineland so close to nature.

Beautiful circular route along the "Old" Rheinaue to the Rhine overlooking Zons. Arrivals and departures are easily with the S-Bahn from Dusseldorf - Garath possible.

This highlight is only a small part of the Urdenbacher Kämpe.
With an area of 316 hectares, the Urdenbacher Kämpe is the largest nature reserve in Düsseldorf. It is a typical piece of old Lower Rhine cultural landscape with pollard willows, fruit trees and valuable wet meadows. The flowering fruit trees are particularly worth seeing.
Due to its supraregional importance, the Urdenbacher Kämpe was included in the European Natura 2000 protected area system and has enjoyed international protection ever since.
The name Kämpe comes from campus = field

It is worth checking the level of the Rhine online before your arrival. Many paths are inaccessible during floods. Even after heavy rains, many paths are very muddy and slippery. Especially in the area of wooden bridges you should be careful where you go.

The hike is worthwhile, as it leads directly along the banks of the Rhine, away from the road and then through an unspoilt meadow landscape. At the weekend, however, there are numerous strollers.

The meadow landscape on the way to the Rhine impresses with its wide view over green fields. The isolated rows of trees complete the picture. Incidentally, this path is also very appealing in cloudy or foggy weather.

Really beautiful meadow landscape. Unfortunately a bit crowded.

My daughter and I just did the tour with 11.6Km, it was really nice and varied. You can always read the information panel, for the children it is also interesting to learn more about the Rhine and its course.

The large Rhine meadows are used as floodplains for flood water. Individual trees look quite imposing.

Did the 12 km tour today and used one of the last summer days. Unfortunately it was a bit crowded but still nice. We saw quite a few herons.

The Urnenbacher Kämpen look like a huge dog toilet compared to the Neuss side.

Wonderful floodplain landscape with polluted willows, orchards and wet meadows that you cannot often experience!

The Auen in Urdenbach is the largest nature reserve in Düsseldorf. Orchards with beautiful flowers, follow the path through the meadows and you're on the Rhine. A really beautiful piece of nature, the whole area is an asset to bird lovers. 👍
