The Dr. Karl Remeis Observatory is the astronomical institute of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. It is located in the city of Bamberg. The Dr. Remeis Observatory was founded in 1889 as a private institution. In 1962 it was integrated into the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg as an astronomical institute.

The Dr. Remeis Observatory is one of the last observatories in Germany from the late 19th century that have remained essentially unchanged. Since the early 1960s, it has belonged to the Department of Physics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg as an astronomical institute. Today, university education and research of the 21st century are conducted at the observatory in international cooperation. For decades, the Dr. Remeis Observatory has been rooted in the cultural landscape of Bamberg through its public outreach activities.
