Following the successful urban redevelopment in 1982, this square was also enhanced with the installation of a fountain. The fish on display was sculpted by the Landau artist Stefan Forler. It reminds the viewer of the fishing trade, which is now extinct in the cathedral city but has survived here for centuries. The fish market, first mentioned as the "forum piscium" in 1290, once stretched along Speyer Bay. In the late Middle Ages, this was the site of the fish and timber market. The local "Hasenpfühler" guild, as well as sailors from outside, stacked their timber in the spacious timber yard.
