The Musikantenbrunnen owes its name to three figures from whose instruments the water splashes. It collects in a flat, paved fountain bowl around the dome, also paved, on which the bronze musicians stand. The figures are placed back to back and play the instruments saxophone, French horn and flute. The saxophone and French horn are each played by a male figure, while the flute is played by the female figure. The installation of this fountain took place in the course of the campaign of Mayor Dr. Erwin Vetter "Ettlingen - City of Fountains", early to mid 1980s. Ettlingen should get more fountains again. The fountains removed in the 1950s and 1960s were replaced with new ones.
