Weißes Häusle Ettlingen

Neither the mayor nor any president resides in the "White House" of Ettlingen - it is more of a "Häusle" but it offers a wonderful view over the Rhine plain
In addition to the "Bismarck Tower" from 1901, the "White Häusle" is a striking eye-catcher on Robbberg. It was built in 1520 as a field guard's house when the vineyard on the Robberg was enlarged and rebuilt in 1725. From Strasbourg, where the "White House" was supposed to be seen as a distant point of view when the visibility was good, a load of lime was sent when the new building was built to ensure the white liming. When their luminosity diminished around 1770, students from Strasbourg, among them law student Johan Wolfgang von Goethe, are said to have collected 3 guilders and 43 kreuzers during a boozy feast on the platform of the cathedral to support the Ettlingen city council with a new whitewashing. After the "White House" fell into disrepair more and more in the 20th century, it was built from scratch in 1987 by the city of Ettlingen and of course given a bright white paint.
