In the "White House" of Ettlingen resides neither the mayor nor any president - it is also more of a "cottage" but it offers a magnificent view over the Rhine valley
In addition to the "Bismarck Tower" from 1901, the "White House" is a striking eye-catcher on Robbberg. It was built in 1520 at the enlargement of the vineyards on Robberg as Feldhüterhäuschen and rebuilt in 1725. From Strasbourg, from where the "White House" was supposedly seen as a distant viewpoint in good weather, a load of lime was sent to the new construction to ensure the white limestone. When around 1770 their luminosity subsided, Strasbourg students, among them the law student Johan Wolfgang von Goethe, have collected at a humid joy on the platform of the cathedral 3 gulden and 43 Kreuzer to support the Ettlinger city council in a new Weißtünchung. After the "White House" in the 20th Century declined more and more, it was built in 1987 by the city of Ettlingen from scratch and of course provided with a bright white paint.
