Exmoor Pony
In the wild:
"For a long time, these original, robust ponies were regarded as feral domestic ponies. It was only gradually that it became apparent what special position these horses hold. Living in the inhospitable Exmoor in south-west England, the "Celtic ponies" were never mixed with other breeds. They are the last European wild horses. At the end of the 1940s there were only about 50 of these primitive ponies left. Even today there are hardly more than 500 broodmares and a total of probably less than 4,000 animals, and some mare and stallion lines are threatened with extinction!"
