A really great zoo. You do not feel like a classic zoo visit, because you really walk through it and the enclosures are so generously designed and fit into the landscape.

The Sababurg zoo is located at the foot of the castle of the same name, which is also called the Dornrößchenschloss. The park is huge, it's kind of like walking with animals, because the enclosures are incredibly big. Even the strictest animal rights activist will find nothing to complain about. Many enclosures are also accessible and you can spend hours there. A medieval Christmas market takes place every year during Advent. There are also enough parking spaces.

Here you can get to know the animals better, get to know their habits, eating behavior and their voices.

There is a great museum in the zoo, there is a lot for children to discover.
There is a fairy tale corner on the top floor.
The medieval festival in the zoo is also highly recommended

The zoo is an extensive area with a variety of different animal species.
Admission of € 8.00 for adults is affordable. You can stay there all day and have meals in different places. There are always enough benches on the way to linger.

The zoo is just wonderful. Very extensive and therefore you are alone in many places. A tour in the evening is particularly recommended as the animals slowly come to rest ....

The park closes at 7:00 p.m., but you don't have to leave it by then. If you are already inside and want to stay longer, you can always leave the park through the steel revolving gate at the official exit or at the exit at the restaurant.

this is not a zoo where the animals are always visible, the animals have plenty of space here and the animals have to be "discovered". therefore especially suitable for parents and children to watch the enclosure and unfortunately you have to be patient.

Despite some corona restrictions (closed as of September 1st, 2020: the budgie aviary, the penguin water world, the contact enclosure, the stables of the farm, the church barn and the barbecue areas, no feedings, no park lane) I enjoyed it again ! The holidays are over, the corona restrictions are easy to cope with (mask requirement only at the entrances, toilet and snack bar) and you can walk and take photos on the extensive network of paths, feeling safe and not meeting so many others during the week. A very enjoyable day!

Not always easy to spot, the lynx like to lie in the branches of the large tree in the enclosure.

There are two good points for observing and photographing the otters in the Sababurg zoo: There is a viewing platform directly to the left of the path when you come from the entrance and opposite on the other side of the pond.

you should take your time to see all of the animals. Fortunately, the animals have large enclosures here. you have to take a closer look. I can only say we liked it a lot.

The Sababurg zoo is always worth a visit. There is always something new to discover. The circular routes of different lengths invite you to take beautiful walks.
