The fortified church of St. Martin in Dörrenbach in the Southern Palatinate district of Rhineland-Palatinate serves as a shared church for both the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate and the Diocese of Speyer. It used to be called St. Ulrich. The choir tower was built around 1300. The remaining parts of the church were added in the following centuries. It is a listed building.
The tower also served as a defense. Other structural elements include a light tower and a stair tower, a sundial and a bell. The portal consists of a pointed arch from the 16th century.
Inside there are also wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries that are intended to depict the Bible, as there were many illiterate people in the population at that time. During the Reformation in the 16th century, these were painted over on the initiative of the Dukes of Zweibrücken. They were made visible again during a restoration in 1953.

The church with its fortifications in the center of Dörrenbach is the only surviving fortified church in the Palatinate.

The fortified church of St. Martin with its castle-like fortifications is a great special feature - not only in the Palatinate, I think. As a complement to Andi's tip:

"Among the five bells in the bell tower, one of the oldest bells in the Palatinate still rings today, dating from around 1330." More information and photos of the interior: doerrenbach.de/sehenswuerdigkeiten/wehrkirche
