According to legend, the construction of the New Mill lock was the result of princely disorientation: Elector Frederick III, later King Frederick I, got lost on a hunting trip and came to the water mill. While eating and drinking, the miller complained about the irregular water level. Frederick reacted promptly - and in 1695 the weir and lock were built. In 1868, the new lock chamber was built next to the old one. Source: sbahn.berlin/was-hast-du-vor/ausflugstouren/tour/koeniglich-wandern-eine-tour-durch-neue-muehle
