When the last night ravens, startled by the daylight, leave the Oude Beestenmarkt on Sunday morning, the first animal marches already drive onto the square. A rare moment when two completely different cultures touch each other. Because where on Sunday morning the cackling of the poultry mixes with the palaver of the morning person, there is a scene at night.
Quite a bit of beer has already flowed from the taps in the cafes on the Oude Beestenmarkt. But they have made their mark on the music scene as well! Club 69 is one of the coolest dance places in town. And there is always a good DJ at work. Just step in, turn the knob and let yourself drift to the beats!
Of course it's not all nightlife that matters. During the day you can perfectly enjoy a terrace in good weather! And do you need a caffeine boost? Then quickly cross the street to Bar Bidon. You can always enjoy a coffee or a light lunch in this trendy race bar.
No matter how hip and exuberant it is at night, the image is sometimes so peaceful and touching on Sunday mornings. Small children with mom and dad looking for the most beautiful bunny. Free-range chickens. And other small pets looking for a new home.
The Oude Beestenmarkt is still a market where animals are traded. Although you can still go there for a second-hand bike.
