The Pferdsbrunnen (Horse Spring) lies south of Johanniskreuz in the heart of the Palatinate Forest. It is one of three springs that later feed the Schwarzbach stream. In 1896, it was decided to secure the water supply for the forester's lodge in Johanniskreuz by building a pumping station at the source of the Pferdsbach. A turbine-driven pumping station was constructed, which pumped the water 1,911 meters to a reservoir and finally to Johanniskreuz. Today, only the sandstone pump house remains of this system.
