Luisenplatz is located in the Brandenburger Vorstadt district, near the Brandenburg Gate.
Brandenburger Straße opens here from the east, and the avenue to Sanssouci, Zimmerstraße, and Zeppelinstraße branch off to the west in a fan-like pattern.
To the east, the square is bordered by Schopenhauerstraße, which runs north-south. For many years, Luisenplatz was a lumberyard, where a carpenter cut his lumber until around 1840. In the 19th century, the city slowly expanded, and the square was built on. In 1854, Peter Joseph Lenné was commissioned to design it. In addition to a border of trees, the existing streets were emphasized.
A circular fountain with a fountain was created in the center. A fountain bowl was supported by four sandstone figures symbolizing the seasons.
The water supply came from the waterworks in the mosque on the Neustädter Havelbucht. At that time, the runoff water was still channeled above ground into Brandenburger Straße. It was used to flush the gutters there, as there was no sewer system yet.

The square in front of the Brandenburg Gate, the Luisenplatz, was laid out in 1744 under Frederick II, but was not planted until 1854 by Peter Joseph Lenné. In 1939, the square was paved and the trees, except for a few columnar oaks, were removed to create a car park. The redesign from 1999 to 2000 included the construction of an underground car park, the planting of rows of linden trees and the installation of a fountain in the middle of the square.
