Eenrum is located on the Hogeland of Groningen, at the end of the Eenrumermaar. The Baflo-Mensingeweer Canal flows east of the village.
Until 1990, the village was the capital of the municipality of the same name. In that year it was merged with the municipalities of Leens, Ulrum and Kloosterburen to form the municipality of Ulrum, called De Marne in 1992.
